The Preserve Toothbrush

Who would have thought you could help save the planet while brushing your teeth?  The Preserve(R) Toothbrush is made entirely from recycled materials, including yogurt cups from Stonyfield Farms.  The packaging doubles as a reusable travel case, and when it's all worn out, you can send it back to be recycled postage-paid!  The toothbrushes are made in the USA, which is good for so many reasons; local jobs, less transportation impact on the environment, using locally recycled materials, etc.  You can get the toothbrush at natural supermarkets, such as Whole Foods, Wild Oats, and Trader Joe's.

Preserve has several other recycled personal care products.  Visit them at

Warm weather, better mileage

Global Warming is here, that's for sure.  We hit 80 degrees this week in Chapel Hill.  People are wearing shorts everywhere!  It felt like a Spring day at the beach today.

During our recent cold snap, my mileage tanked (pun intended).  I am ashamed to say I averaged 42mpg on that tank and only got a 440 mile range.  Now, with the warmer weather, I'm finding it much easier to stay over 51mpg.  I also haven't run my heater for the past few days (though it was tempting to start the air conditioner tonight - it's nearly 80 degrees even as I write this on the top floor of my house.

Maybe we'll eventually hit a sort of steady state with Global Warming.  As it warms up, we use less energy, which slows down the warming.  Wouldn't it be great if it was just always 75 degrees with a light breeze?

Silverlight 1.1 is now Silverlight 2.0

The Silverlight team recently announced they've renamed Silverlight 1.1 to 2.0.  I've long thought this would be a good idea, since it is such a monumental leap in so many ways over 1.0.  I started messing around with 2.0 (well, the 1.1 version) this weekend and am very impressed with how easy it is to consume databases and web services in particular.  This stuff is going to change the world!
